Thumbs up Want a NAS Caddy with WiFi (for a pretty cool application)

As title really....

A NAS caddy with Wifi - want it to for a HD with MP3s on it..... for the car

I can then wirelessly send music to the car...

Is there such a device?

Don't need the actual HD, as I've got loads of em

They are available but not many out there I don't think. I cannot remember the name of the ones I have seen though.

I use an old laptop which works fine velcro'd to the parcel shelf. I'm looking at some nice touchscreens to integrate into the dash

Old laptop? Save money and use that

Thanks mate, but I've got a Pioneer F900bt on the way.

The box has a USB socket on it, which is meant for memory sticks, but a few peeps on AVIC411.com have been putting lappy HDs in caddies and running them with their music.

I was just toying with the idea of taking it one stage further and wifi'ing the caddy, so I can transfer MP3 and vid files to the HD without going to the car!!

Rather pointless? Probably. Nerdy? GOD yes. Potentially labour-saving and thus cool (in a perverse way)? Quite possibly - don't know until I try it!

Yep my FH-P80BT will read my old archos (hitachi travelstar laptop drive) via USB just like it was plugged into a PC (no video though - its just a audio head unit ).

Would be a little concerened about using it on the move in a car with firm suspension (can't be healthy for the hard drives). Would be tempted to rob some liquid silicone filled rubber mounts from the internals of dead CD changer and use them to support the hard disks

WiFi sounds like a very cool idea, would need something with good auto power saving though to stop it draining the vehicle battery (assuming you want it to work without the ignition switched on).

Yeh, I was thinking about hooking it up to the alarm - remote start type of thing maybe.....

Like I said, just food for though at the moment.
