Default Dead PC hard disk

my slave disk - with 450GB of data - suddenly stopped working. Device Manager sees it, but Explorer says it isn't formatted.

Most of the data is backed up, but some bits aren't, so I'd like to recover it if poss.

Any ideas?

looks like it needs a USB boot, which I don't think my BIOS supports ( it isn't listed as a boot option anyway)

I burnt it to cd and it worked fine.

Although I could not save my drive, but it did end up with me converting one of my machines to Linux as it worked so well lol.

FDISK /MBR Have you tried this? Id say that it saves about 1/3rd of supposedly dead fixed disks. Run from a boot diskette.

no, I haven't got a disk drive. Can you boot from a Vista disk, into DOS, and run it from there?

I've found a program (DDR I think) which looks like it will recover it all - at least it finds the files, but it's a bit pricey at $90

Make sure your disc is actually powering up properly before spending any money IMO

My disc does not even attempt to spin up (from what i can tell)
