Question Conveting films to run on an ipod classic

I have I-tunes on my laptop (XP Pro), cannot find anything in I-tunes that will do this.

The films are .avi .mpg .mpeg and .flv

Is there any freeware that will do this or am i missing a trick with I-tunes?

Have a look at Handbrakep.

One other thing, select the file in iTunes, then go to the Advanced menu and see if there is a "Create iPod or iPhone version" command, and if so, give that a whirl, as I think that'll convert the file into a format that the device can use

I use Handbrake on the Mac - it will rip DVDs as well. Not sure if it works on XP.

David, there does seem to be a download for XP listed, both a GUI and CLI version, but I've only ever used it, and briefly at that, on a Mac.

For ripping of DVDs, I have used MacTheRipper (not the free version, go to their site and get the latest paid for version) and it's really rather good.
