Why would you want DVDs?? Its like still having a tapedeck. Even cd's are old hat I have two racks 6ft high full of cd's which I'm thinking of banishing to the loft as they just get in the way and one ipod or similar mp3 player would hold the same amunt of albus in say 15gig. Blueray is the way forward, until say next year if they have an even newer format

VSO is very good VSO Download DVD Burning Software, convert AVI to DVD, video converter, DVD copy to DVD slideshow photo

Also the new .mkv blueray films need .mkv to play via vlc or windows media player

if you need the new codecs to play them download CCCP linky

CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack

DOWNLOAD is virus free checked

I suppose if you don't mind losing sound quality then mp3 is ok. Personally, I can't stand listening to mp3/aac etc through the hifi. You just lose so much in the compression (especially in the bottom and top ends of the audio spectrum).

Give "Any DVD Shrink" a punt. It gives you three rips until you have to buy it. I was that impressed with how quickly it rips I actually bought it!

Any DVD Shrink - DVD Backup, DVD Shrink, DVD Copy and DVD Clone!

Go to settings -> change to enhanced (copy method) and tracks = 8.

Shrink is ok but it wont be able to rip alot of more recent movies (which use different copy protection) it does 90% though.

This SlySoft AnyDVD | any dvd, region free, dvd copy, copy dvd movies, dvd decoder, dvd ripper, macrovision, dvd copying software will copy just about anything that you can throw at it. Or more accurately it sits between your DVD drive and something like DVD Shrink. There is a trial version that will enable you to see if it works on the DVD's you want to back-up.

Or your disc is faulty, try copying the contents of the disc to your hard drive, if it also fails there's a problem with the disc.

*sigh Like I said Shrink cannot crack all protections out there, basically because it hasn't been developed since 2006 or something when it was pulled.

AnyDVD is usually up to date but sometimes they also don't cover all protections either until another release is put out.

DVDFAB6 rips anything at the moment.

Geez I can't remember which, I have >1000 DVD's at the moment and alot of them Shrink could not rip. Latest Rambo was 1 example.

Those ones you mentioned use protection that Shrink can crack/decrypt!

Wish I had looked a bit further before actually buying something!

I have found this DVDSMITH and it is 100% FREE, but only rips to folder on HD, so does not do shrink for DVD-/+R, which is fine for me as I am only doing this for media streaming. Anyway, it just did Rambo straight off.

DVDSmith Movie Backup: DVD Decrypter to copy DVD movie to computer hard drive, and remove all the CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS protections

Nope CSS is one of the usual ones, it must have a hidden directory structure or something like that.
