How to Remove UOPs Protection from DVD Using DVDSmith Movie Backup.
I suspect you will have to choose "HIGHLY ENHANCED" as the copy method.

Well it's beaten me. The dvd to hard drive folder that was created contained vob files that couldn't be recognised as a valid dvd folder so could do nothing with the folder apart from open it and watch it using vlc.
So followed this guide to convert back to a valid dvd format:
Re-create a DVD from one or more VOB files
This created a new valid dvd TS_VIDEO folder that all the converter software could recognise. However doing the conversions now does exactly the same as the original DVD and finished after 27% I thought the ripping to the hard drive would have removed the protection but appears that didn't happen and just made a copy of it.
I've run out of ideas now as ripped the dvd to my hard drive, converted back to dvd format folder and then just acts exactly the same as the original DVD so total waste of time Obviously i've successfully copied it but that wasn't what I wanted, it just will not convert to mp4 format.

The method I used above was cr4p in the end, was loads of bits of the film all over the place by joining the vobs together.
If it can rip Twilight it will rip anything.

AnyDVD will remove all encryption on-the-fly, so I use this and copy stripped disc contents, direct to my fixed disk, as opposed to using DVDDecrypter. DVD Shrink will then re-author and transcode as before.
