Default Can't load up XP after trying to un install AVG9

After getting the hump with AVG9 and how slow it was to do anything with it. I un installed it, or at least tried to.

I get as far as the windows XP page and then it turns itself off then back on again.

I can get to the advanced settings but still can't get it to work in any of the modes, like safe mode, original last known working setting, etc, etc. I didn't get a back up disc with it as it's one of those that are built into it.

Any ideas how to get it back up and running AND not doing a total re install as I have stuff on there I'd like to keep, if possible.

What make is your PC, some manufactures have a Pre installed Recovery program ( its hidden on a second part of your hard drive ) this would fix any issues your pc has for starting up.

may end up rebuilding from scratch if it's really borked it but that should help you get the data off at least. And no using AVG the next time try

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ if you dont want to pay, or

http://www.eset.co.uk/ if you do

some have the option to repair, rather than do a FULL factory restore.

This happend to me 2 days ago. I found a few trojans on my computer with
AVG9 and got rid of them. Anyway as soon as AVG got rid, my PC restarted and got as far as the xp logo screen with the blue loading bar and rebooted it self, and this kept happening, looping all over and over.

My PC is a HP, when it restarted i had an option to press F10 to go to the recovery console ( Have you checked if yours has something similar?) and i just let that do it thing.

The only PITA with it was i had to update everything such as flash, java and windows SP etc etc. Even the old programs the computer came with came back such as Norton 2004 , so had the pleasure of having to uninstall all them.

The good thing was though that my files, music and pics was still there.

First thing i did was uninstall AVG, will never use that shower of shit again. Good luck with it and let us know how
you get on mate

Thanks.

I've pressed F10 to get into recovery, it then scrolls along then comes up with the HP Invent window comes up with the mouse cursor on the screen, then does nothing.

It's a HP Pavillion a1329uk model.

If it wipes the lot then so be it but I'd like to try and save it.

Thanks, just had a quick look through and I'm still not much the wiser. I just can't seem to get past the xp window. If I try F10 it does the same as what I typed above. If I go into the advanced menu and click on restore, it then comes up windows has been closed due to a problem please uninstall anti virus's, etc
So frustrating ....

OK.

So have you tried to use the recovery agent to FIX the start up problem. It will reinstall all the windows system files ( and should repair the problems you have )

Yep, just tried that and it came up with the screen with looks like one of my webshot pictures and just the mouse cursor. It hasn't done anything after that and the pc itself hasn't made a noise or done anything at all.

Just been pressing F10 for the past 10 minutes and still it's not doing anything like how it says on here:-

Performing an HP System Recovery in Windows XP HP Pavilion a1329.uk Desktop PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English)

I'm getting the progress bar then it comes up with the screen with the mouse cursor on it.

At this point do CTRL-ALT-DELETE does anything happen? i.e does task manager popup? If it does then endtask anything that is AVG related or failing that everything, then run explorer.exe to get the desktop back. Then look at removing AVG with their proper cleaning tool mentioned earlier.

If all else fails reinstall probably.

Task manager wont pop up, as it happens after he resets the PC and pushes F10 to take it into the HP recovery console, so doesn't even reaches the desktop.

Usually when it loads up normally, it'll show the windows xp page, then show a choice of two user accounts that are password protected. Once either password is done, then it moves onto icon page, etc.

I can't get past the page that shows the windows xp sign. It takes me to the following page or just re starts itself. I can get a bios menu set up, I can do F10 then it takes me onto a page with the mouse cursor arrow, then does nothing and sits like that for hours.

I can get into the advanced menu set up where it shows, start in safe mode, safe mode with prompts, last known working setting, start windows, etc and it just scrolls down with what looks like some sort of driver codes, then onto the windows xp page, then restarts itself.

Maybe worth trying to get hold of an xp disc to recover?
