Default Advice on buying desktop

My PC has decided to cook itself, so it looks like time to buy a new one. Looking to budget around £500ish. What sort of spec should I be looking at, and can anyone recommend a retailer?

Build your own, fairly easy to do, get the exact spec. you want, very satisfying. However if you don't think you can / don't want to then the buying power of the big retailers will normally get you the best deal:

Inspiron 560 - D005624 | Dell United Kingdom

For example. 2.5GHz Core 2 Quad Processor, 4 GB memory, Nvidia graphics, etc. Also keep an eye out for supermarket specials....

it just the tower u need? u happy with ur screen? if so you could build a very nice comp for £500

Ive got a core 2 quad q6600 with 4 gig ram, and 2 terrabyte hard drive space dvd player an so on, better graphics card than that, and you could build it for less. Or are you not tech minded?

not too tech minded, but I know a man who is. At this stage, yes I only need the tower. I could possibly use bits off my old tower too.
