Default about to uninstall avast antivirus!

rebuild a thinkpad x31 laptop to windows xp sp3. patched and installed all the thinkpad drivers. then decided to try avast home edition (freeware). download it from the avast.com and install it with all default settings.

once restarted, windows security center saying avast is turned off! i checked and it is running OK. i also notice after a restart, the laptop takes longer on starting up before i can use it.

been using symantec antivirus corp edition and avg free edition, and both been trouble free.

some antivirus products can do a startup scan - sort of an intermediate scan to see if anything has changed in the system startup settings. Perhaps this is an option that can be turned off ? For example, ESET Nod32 has this feature and can be disabled ?

I cant help, but i just wanted to show some love to another thinkpad user

I am still using my thinkpad x22 to browse the net here at work, and apart from the screen backlight blowing last year, it still works 100%
