Default Microsoft .... i'm impressed!

Had the RROD last week

Luckily was still in warranty ( by 2 weeks ) so called the repair number and got put through very quickly to an operator who was very helpful and spoke good english

No waiting around , got connected straight away

Got a ups label by email and within a few hours console was collected the courier

Today a what looks like new (refurb?) unit arrived just over a week after it was sent off with a free xbox live subscription for a month

Do the words Microsoft and good service seem strange to you ?? ...

having said that it shouldn't have broke in the first place .....

I filled in a form online, printed off a label, delivered it to UPS (as I couldn't be bothered to wait around for them to pick it up) and had it back in two weeks.

All in all I was quite impressed.

Although, as you say, it shouldn't have done it in the first place ...

Mine froze on Monday, then I got the RROD too. Luckily though, once i'd reset it they vanished.
Anyone fancy placing a bet on how long i've got before they are back for good? My unit's 18 months old.
Once they fix it has it never been known to return?

What's the warranty these days ? 2 or 3 years, if it's 2 i'd give it a slap and get the RROD back and get it swapped before the warranty runs out .

I believe the record on SN is 11 or 13 so yeah every chance it could return

Mine's been back twice. Both times I've had it returned within two weeks with a months free Xbox live.

My original core machine lasted nearly 2 years with heavy use before it broke, while it was away getting fixed last year i bought an elite, i have had a few random freezes on this one, but i suspect its more the programs crashing or whatever, rather then a hardware fault ?

It does not help matters when the NXE guide is now a laggy POS, i am positive the 2 are connected.

Yes I'm on my 12th in about 2 years the worst lasted a whole 13 days, I ahve an Elite packed up waiting to go back and my Arcade is now getting disk read errors. Sorry these things are junk but the system is great and some quality games. Thats sdaid the units do seem to be getting more reliable had my Arcada for 8 months before it started playuing up.

Jeez thats sad if it was made by Apple it would cost £200 and never go wrong which I'd prefer

Be careful with the play and charge kits I've had two fail and one caught fire whilst I'd fallen asleep playing the xbox in the wee hours and the cracking and smoke woke me up.

My friend is head of the XBox divsion and was quite concerned about the failure rate hence me being given a Elite as a sorry

I would of thought they are thinking about it -- the application store (and games) have been such a success on the iPhone.

I'll be asking for a discount from you if they ever do release one
