transfer outlook files from win98SE to win2000
#1
I am changing computers. My old one runs on windows 98SE and my new one runs on win2000.
I want to transfer my inbox, sent items, and contacts etc to my new computer.
I have copied the outlook files, archive.pst and outlook.pst onto my zip 100 drive. I cannot find these files on win2000.
How do I tranfer my old files onto win2000.
Because I may go onto XP (still undecided) could somebody tell me how to transfer also to a XP sytem.
Cheers

from rusty memory i exported my files from outlook to a comma seperated file (or some other type, maybe delimited cant remember now doh) then imported into fresh verson of outlook.
worked fine for me.
not really helpful, but may mean you look in a direction that may help you more hehehehe

Slider,
The default location for Outlook.pst on some W2000 systems is...
\Documents & Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft
You may need to turn on viewing of hidden files to see the Application Data folder.

hidden application data files, thanks Chris.
found the outlook folder with only outlook.pst in. unfortunately there is for me a but.
how do I transfer my original outlook.pst (Jeff- my outlook.pst and archive.pst are on my desktop waiting to find a home !) into the outlook folder.
I cannot open up the original outlook.pst and drag and drop the files into the 'new' outlook.pst file because it opens as an attachment to a e-mail. Will it be possible to put the original (old computer)outlook.pst in the new computers outlook.pst file . ie an (the old/original)outlook.pst inside the 'new' outlook.pst or do I put it next to the new outlook.pst (don't think so to both).
I presumme I just drag the archive.pst into the outlook folder as it has not got one in yet or will it create a archive.pst itself when I archive in outlook thus creating 2
So I am still puzzled
thanks for all replies

Cant you login as Administrator and rename the .pst file created when outlook was first installed on the win2k system, and then copy in the backup pst file to the same location?.
