Cool

Me again

This Site as an example.

What is a site like that likely to cost in the real world? It is essentially a booking form with an amount of validation and then Credit Card authorisation to take the money. A bit like all e-commerce sites really

It's the credit card thing really that is interesting to me 'cos as always interested in increasing our revenue stream, but it would be more for a specific application for which our current stuff is unsuitable (unfortunately).

As usual, a balanced view is obtained via scoobynet IT services

Crikey guys!

Don't need an exact quote but a "guideline" (for the mo) for a site that might not end up acting dis-simillar to that one, in look and action.

There would have to be lots of stuff behind the scenes too and a lot of that is related to positional malarky.

Just a guideline (more than £100, more than £1000, more than £10,000 etc)

Haven't got the contract yet

Puff

I've just added Credit card ability to my site via SSL 128bit and PGP encryption.

You can get a SQL server sitting behind that if you want to issue all the info prior to putting in your details.

I'm not using the SQL stuff yet tho.

Have a look at www.scoobyworld.co.uk - as I say the order form uses the PGP/128bit SSL - is this what you're after? If so mail me offline and I'll give you the details.

I assume you mean as in search engine positioning and optimisation?! Are you looking for the costs to do the site, or the whole thing including promotion/marketing?? No point spending 10 grand on the site, if no-one knows it exists.....

>Just a guideline
>more than £100
Ah, the bloke who's used Frontpage for a week solution

>more than £1000
Definitely!!

>more than £10,000
Maybe: its up to you!

There are several things to consider with the site that will affect the pricing.

Lots of pages will increase the price, and a site with database access will also increase the costs as well as restrict who can do the site as it will require programmers as well as designers.

On-line SSL/Credit card authorisation will also add to the costs.

Hosting/Bandwidth requirements - the more popular the site, the more its going to cost for someone to provide the traffic.

If you want a quote when you've got something a bit more defined in scope, let me know - or email me if you just want to kick around some ideas!

From the look of the example, I think a few grand will be the minimum you'll be looking at......

It is as long as a piece of string given that we don't know where the data is coming from, but I reckon prolly about the 20k+ mark too if you're looking at a SQLServer backend and SSL using shared hardware. Then you'll want to get your orders securely off the box in an encrypted way. No plain text email nonesense, or writing everything straight to the database without encrypting it first.

What else would add to the cost? The architecture. Depending on performance and expected load, if you chuck in a couple of load balanced Win2k front end boxes and a SQL Server box all nicely located on a fast resilient network behind a quality Cisco firewall and VPN for admin you can add at least 70-100k per annum on top.
