Default Vista 32 or 64?

i have 2gb of ram atm but wanting to add another 2GB.

as vista 32 can only utilize 3.5gb is it worth upgrading to vista 64?

what is the advantage of using 64 instead of 32?

Vista 32 will show 4gb of ram, plus it also depends on what you want to do? If your just gaming then 32 will be more than sufficient, if your doing CAD/Photoshop/Video editing, then 64 is your boy

You may want to check that your Motherboard supports it -- I went through the hassle of installing the 64bit version only to find that I could STILL only see 3.5gb!

Vista 32 can address 4gb TOTAL RAM

So in reality you cab see:

4gb less Graphics Card Ram +/- a bit depending on configuration

If your system has a 64 bit processor then i say do it as your cutting the performance of the machine if you dont. The laptop im writing this on came with vista 32 home premium and after 1 day i rebuilt it with windows 7 64bit build 7077 to get the full performance

Dont you think it has more to do if the software has been designed to run 64bit rather than 32bit?
As I have stated, for games 32bit is more than sufficient, for high end apps like cad etc, 64bit as for most cases, 4gb of memory wont be fully utilised (unlike CAD which will grab as much as possible!)

I've been very unhappy with 64 since I built my machine. I've never had stability problems on any build but after putting 64 on my home PC its been a PITA. Nearly every time I start the machine I get a BSOD. It only does it once per session.

Forgets resolution settings, loses all the posh bars etc and looks like 3.1! Loses its network connection and this morning it insisted on sending an error report and then when I said no it thought about it and asked me again.

If I wasn't for the having 4GB RAM and a 64bit processor I would gladly go back to XP. We got a laptop from work which also has these random complaints from Windows Vista but thats 32. Its very dim witted with Vista and when I get a moment I will put XP on it.
