Recommend me a good notebook?
Hi
I need a notebook. I will be using it for very basic tasks. I want to be able to write/store invoices on word document whilst on the go. This would be made much easier if I had internet access, so will get a 'dongle'
It needs to fit in my briefcase, and be very robust. Battery life less important as I will always be somewhere that has power outlet
Thanks

One of the guys at work has just had a new samsung from these people Oyyy.co.uk > Oyyy Home > Free Delivery available on orders over £100! which seems pretty good for about 650 quid (2ghz intel core 2 duo, 4gb memory, blue ray dvd etc).

he said notebook, not netbook. Are those mini things netbooks ?
All netbooks are pretty pi$$ poor on performance. If deep's asking for a notebook, I'd assume he wants a bit of performance up his sleeve and he's not bothered about battery life

Would'nt say the nc10 is "poor", I can actually run solidworks 3D design software on mine, which is not lite weight stuff.
But noted he did say notebook. But that said fits in a briefcase with room for plenty more stuff.

Its a netbook I need then.
I've had nothing but bad luck with Apple products, so no Mac for me.
I think thats the Samsung I saw over the weekend, am I correct in thinking it has no CD drive? Do netbooks generally not have CD drives?

yes this is correct, net books don't have inbuilt dvd drives, I bought an external one for things that have to be loaded from disc (and if I want to rip my music cd's to the hard drive), but there are other ways round it, usb's for data etc and they can be configured for putting programs on, or of course just download from the web.
This was the one I got,LG Electronics GP08NU10 White External Slim Dual Layer DVD±RW DL Drive, it is powered by a usb cable, it also includes a second usb to power type cable (which I have not needed yet)

Asus are superb. They're definitely in the upper echelons of the laptop manufacturers.
I currently use a 15.4" Asus laptop and it's never missed a beat and built a lot better than most. Asus were first on the scene with netbooks (they do 8.9" versions upwards)

Serious deep,
There is no competition to the nc10.
I have had acer and asus laptops and this is a class above, I generally dont like laptops (unreliable, slow, prone to problems, battery life). I still use a desktop in my office but the samsung goes everyelse with me.
Against the dell mini9. I looked at both, the small kekpad on the dell would annoy me, and the spec is not as high.

bear in mind Asus are on their 3rd generation netbook, having been the first to release one early last year.
I bought my first one back in August, EeePC 901 but found the 8.9" screen a little cramped and sold it shortly after my holiday. Battery life was 6-8 hours!
I'll be buying another Asus later this year, but I'm waiting for netbooks to get their next hardware revision integrating possibly a dual core Atom with an Nvidia north bridge for a bit more kick.
Deep, if you're pockets take after your name, you might want to head into a House Of Fraser and check one of these out:
