My son wants to get a 360 (hey, he's only 9, he doesn't know any better ), but in his bedroom there is no access point, and I am not paying £60 for a wireless adapter!

Now, I believe that some USB wireless things will work, does anyone have any experience of them?

USB type stick won't work

Buy the official unit or an Ethernet Bridge if you want wireless or a home plug setup via the power sockets for wired.

Why do you say the USB won't work? The official one is USB, and a quick Google suggests that there are some that will work

well from what i know only the genuine xbox adapter will work it is a ripoff at £60 i had to buy one and it gets better signal than the one on my pc and i paid £90 for that one.

A USB adapter designed for use on a PC will require drivers . . . which of course you won't be able to install on a 360.

Hi,

Belkin do a wireless gaming adaptor which uses the ethernet port on the Xbox and this works very well.

You can pick them up for about £45.00

The Microsoft unit isn't a rip off IMHO ( I paid £45 ) The user interface and ease of connection is worth the extra £10-£15 over a stand alone bridge any day. Connection usage from within the dashboard is a good thing for me.

Other kit works but it has to be plugged in the Ethernet port. Only the MS unit works via USB.

apparently game are doing the official one for £39.99 when bought with any other item. instore only according to hotukdeals. just get some blank Cd's with it or something like that.

Amazon have just put it back up to £52 from £45 last week for the official adapter.

HotUKDeals are still touting the £30 off voucher from Littlewoods Direct for new customers.

Adapter is £62, postage around £3 and then £30 off code as described in the link above.

If one of the codes still work, just be aware that they charge everything seperately on your card.

It was through Littlewoods that I got my sons adapter.

try toys r us i think i paid around £40 for mine but that was a while ago ,i find it better than the ethernet cable my xbox is about 1 metre away from my router aswell but don't like wires as my dogs do like wires

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have decided to go the Homeplug route and I will be able to use those with other things. I cannot bear to give my money to MS for something I can't use with anything else!

yeah they work better and if you want to watch movies off it from your pc elsewhere, wireless doesn't do the job

it wont stream ""high bit rate HD" aka blue ray

but it will stream low bit rate HD

it doesnt with me its really choppy. Have a good wireless connection between laptop upstairs (tried all media centres, xp, vista, 2008 & win7) and xbox with official wireless adapter & router downstairs . The router was a netgear DG834G 54Mbps router now a O2 Thompson one. Dont know why its no good.
