Firewire on a NEW MacBook
As Apple are pulling all the threads on the discussion forum about this problem, are there any methods for getting Firewire onto a new MacBook?

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. I really think dropping firewire from the MacBooks is a big mistake. Stating USB 2 is used by more devices isn't really a good enough argument, what about legacy compatibility and the ability to use the very, very handy Firewire Target Disk mode.
It is possible there may be USB to Firewire converter cables out there to allow you to connect a FW device to a USB port. Before the edit I had listed a USB/FW combo hub, but it seems it doesn't "convert" as it were, it's one box that contains a separate USB and FW hub within it.

Oddly enough we've been getting a few calls about this now from customers who are now seeing the shortcomings of no Firewire.
I'll see what I can find out over the next few days

LOL - nice one Apple.
So, they've got rid of FW target mode, DVcam xfers and FW audio interfaces.
But I *can* see where they're coming from (not that I agree) - FW in DV & Audio is pretty "pro"..... therefore, you want to use FW, gotta go Pro....
Kinda naive of Apple IMHO, as a great many "pros" use MacBooks.....
All IMHO
