It seems that the dev-team have finally done it! Have a read here. Do read that post and also this one, as it mentions about using specific tools to get to iPhone Software 2.2, my guess is they use a custom ipsw file which updates the software but not the baseband.

So, it's not perfect, but it could be helpful to some. It is possible that they might be able to break the latest baseband, then Apple will release a new one and we're back at the cat and mouse game.

I don't see the big deal in bothering. You can buy chips on ebay that unlock any phone, the sim just sits in it. With one of these and jailbreak it's like having a fully unlocked phone anyway?

I'm sure that chip works too, I wouldn't like to put a eBay chip in my £300 phone.

And the iPhone is alot different to any other phone

one of te reasons that i got a g1 instead of the iphone is that it is very restrictive

Steve has a valid point, I've read a few things saying that the SIM adapter cards don't work too well with the latest software update, and a few people have said to stay away from them.
