Question Anti virus software

Need some kind of protection for the laptop, what does everyone recommend?

Do you pay for the year or is it longer?

12 months subscription. NOD32 is probably as good as you can get, although others will prefer different programs.

Kaspersky Internet security 2009 is absolutely superb :

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 V8 UK Edition OEM 1 User 1 Year - Aria Technology

£13 for 12 months total peace of mind is a bargain.

If you wish to pay, then NOD32 is pretty much the best.
AVG do have a good free alternative, but its lacking features compared to NOD32/Kaspersky IMO

Absolutely. Nod32 gets my vote as well

AVG misses a lot of viruses, and doesn't do a very good job of protection at all. Not recommended

Some protection is better than none, thats what I meant. And surfing common sense :-)

Is it worthwhile mentioning Firefox instead of IE and adaware?

I disagree. From my experience it leads people into a false sense of security (and I'm fed up with repairing virus riddled AVG installed machines).

FYI, if you have an HSBC Bank account you should have a message from them today.

They're giving you a 12 month subscription to McAfee Virusscan Plus free. You can download it straight away.
