The video signal would be sent wireless but the power would be on a normal power cable

Theyre on a popular (read: overcrowded) band Steve. In my limited experience theyve been sh*te.

We have ways around that little issue

We currently demostrate (and implement) VOIP over wireless on and AP's go off and we get NO loss of signal or even a click in the earpiece of the phone whilst having a conversation

What we are demoing next is running CCTV at the same time as VOIP with NO handoff between AP's or at least handoff between AP's is nanoseconds

I am speaking to someone on Friday about this and how they stream the video and VOIP at the same time, and also have Data too

We are also doing all of the above with N data too

I would prefer PoE ones, but initially self powered by wall adapters will suffice

One of the problems with PoE is the amount of power required for the camera, especially with pan tilt and motion detection and infrared

On saying that we can run N on full power using only 6 watts and over standard CAT5e

steve seriously get a wired system if you can, FIND A WAY! the wireless ones are beyond crap! the ones I have at home are wired and the picture quality is excellent I tried the wireless ones and I was getting interupted signals from all sorts of things, specifically everytime we or one of our neighbours put their microwave ovens on!

Cheers James

But it has to be Wireless, as thats what our company does

This isnt so we can provide CCTV systems, this is so we can prove just how good our Wireless system is by providing VOIP, CCTV & Wireless all at the same time

Just as a sideline to this if you think the bandwidth won't cope

Twickenham Stadium has just had 8 access points installed and can and has succesfully streamed live video footage to 4,500 concurrent users with PSP's

We use only 1 channel to provide entire site coverage, so there is no rumbling to be had

plus how many people use the 5ghz range

Do you have any more details on this setup as the maths does not add up. i.e. the bandwdith to stream the video.

In my experience wireless are crap - i've yet to see a really good setup.

But again thats just my opinion. there are loads of plug and play options available.

I wanna do that!

I've looking into Wireles IP cameras - but I want one that will allow full viewing on a Mac - and a lot won't.

Another problem - at least at home is getting power to where I want to site the cameras. PoE would solve that somewhat.

Our system isnt cheap that will do the above

Ive looked at some D-Link ones and they are pricey between 4-700 quid just for one and they don't do PoE

Axis is the other one I have been looking at, but not had much chance to look into it further yet, will be trying on Monday again
