It means upto 10mb, but distance from the exchange and a few other factors will reduce your speed, but just under 5mb is pretty good going unless your right next door to the exchange, in which case its not

You must be on cable. So it doesn't matter.

Depends where you are, but in most cases they use to be near the main post office, though mainly in the centre of a city or the town, in villages they can be just a small shed size or the size of a garage, its a bit hit n miss really to where they are, but give me a general location and ill see if i know where it is

Cool

If you are on cable shouldn't it run at pretty much the stated speed?

I thought signal loss was an ADSL problem only, and the amount of users shouldn't affect it?

ADSL can be either cable or wire, both use similar equipments (DSLAM, 1 optical, 1 wire) so the ammount of users can affect the speed, though the difference being that with optical you can boost the signal more and there is considerably less loss due to it being a part of the light spectrum (unless the cable is damaged or bent too much), hence the quicker speeds with cable.

Lou, have a word with virgin, they may say your speed is "normal" for your area....

He said he thought his connection was either 10mb or 20mb. Virgin media don't do those connections on normal ADSL only on Cable.
