PS3 Not loading games

PS3 Not loading games
My son's PS3 has started playing up.
It won't load any games, icon flashes in top corner but then nothing.
Games are all newish and in good condition, no scatches, etc.
It does however still play DVD's and music CD's.
Done a few searches, and common reasons always comes up.
Laser problem or hard drive.
But this is always for machines that won't play anything, games or DVD's.
Any ideas anyone.
It's still under warranty from last Xmas, but won't get a chance to return it until the weekend.
So just looking for a solution first.

If it's under warranty then don't bother messing with it trying to fix it, just sit it out until the weekend safe in the knowledge you'll/he'll get a new one.
In the meantime have a read of this Official PlayStation website: Help & Support and then give Sony a call if still wanting to do something before the weekend.

Sony will only give your son a new PS3, if no refurbished console is on the shelf.Usually Sony give a refurbished PS3 if they can't fix it and maybe a 60gb version will be delivered.I think you can use canned air or something like that to blow out the dust.

1. i bought an elite to replace my white version (bearing in mind was on my fifth white version) and havent had one problem since and cant even hear it now so less noisy than its previous cousin

it should be the laser, same thing happened with mine, games started freezing then they wouldnt load but i could still play dvds, is there an error code coming up at all? ring sony, they were real helpful and offered me a choice of the 60 or a refurbed 80, as mine was an 80, they sent it out within 2 days, straight swap console for console and its been fine ever since
