New Router Time - Recommendations pls
My trusty old 3Com has decided to go into a never ending reboot cycle and no amount of power offs can even get me onto the admin page to do any further troubleshooting or have any chance to upgrade firmware etc.
So time for a new one. What are people using on here these days and would you recommend it?
Cheers,
Simon

Any budget? Personally, I have a draytek 2910VG (cable router) and can't fault it at all. But it was the thick end of £170.
Money no object, go for draytek for home router IMO.

For my money, and after trying 4 other well known brands of router, I'd recommend the Netgear Rangemax DG834N. Owned it for about a year now and it does just what it says on the tin.
Wireless connection through several brick walls and never misses a beat.
Retails around £110, BNIB on fleabay around £35 if you're lucky.

I would thoroughly recommend going for any Linksys kit.
Linksys are a division of Cisco and make for seriously high quality kit. I'm swapping my Netgear 834 for a linksys very soon
Something like:
Linksys WAG160N 300Mbps Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem/Router
Linksys WAG54GS 54Mbps SpeedBooster Wireless ADSL2+ Modem/Router
would be fine

I use a Netgear DG834G. I always use these for home wireless installs and for friends etc.
Only £39 from Amazon. I'm sure I read this is Netgears No.1 selling ADSL router.
The only kit I would definitely stay away from is D-Link.

doing home installs for people in the Uni where I work Linksys were a nightmare, as mentioned above they loose thier settings and were generally unreliable.
The Netgear 834G's were great just keep an eye out for firmware updates and possible issues of the firmware. Some do report they suffer overheating problems and the like but all/most home routers can be a little hit and miss.

I've had US Robotics, Draytek, Belkin and Netgear.
USR was reliable, as was the Draytek, although a reboot every now and then was required to prevent lock-ups. Im currently running a Netgear DG384N
As for Bell-end, I mean Belkin, unreliable, unstable pile of pooh, and their support is atrocious
I recommend Netgear to friends, family, people at work, and none of them have tried to strangle me yet.

Got a Netgear DG834PN, pile of junk, keep having to re-boot every so often as it loses the connection, always goes wrong if I've got a decent amount of traffic going through it (e.g. BitTorrent).
Think I was unlucky to have bought one of the most unreliable router that NetGear make as the rest of the range seems pretty good by all accounts. Enough to put me off for life though.

I brought a Linksys 3 months ago, can't remember the model.
It's not gone wrong once, and from out of the box to running all my kit online in 10 minutes.
