Xbox 360 Price Cuts Confirmed By MS For Sept 19th
Microsoft just confirmed that this Friday, September 19th, the Xbox 360 will see a significant price reduction in all European countries, dropping prices for Xbox 360 Arcades to £129, 60GB Pros to £169 and 120GB Elites to £229. A reduction from the previous £159, £199 and £259 pricing.
Thats now cheaper than the Wii
"Xbox 360 has now sold over 20 million consoles worldwide and due to its unprecedented success, we are now able to pass on the rewards of that success to the consumer with a new retail pricing from £129.99," commented Neil Thompson, senior regional director for Microsoft UK.
"With more games, more entertainment with Xbox Live and now even more value, we are looking forward to welcoming more customers into the leading next generation console, Xbox 360."

IMO, you need to factor in game sales too to quantify which is the leading console. This would leave the Wii trailing.
Its debatable whether the Wii is truly 'Next-Gen' or perhaps even 'New-Gen'.

It's certainly 'this-gen' despite being technologically inferior to PS3 and 360.
Wii 160m software sales against 360 145m.
Obviously 360 is slightly ahead on games per console sold attach rates.

just got 3 flashing red lights when i switched the machine on
i have a week off starting on monday, and was going to spend it all playing on the xbox PMSL
i have £43 worth of game shop vouchers, so i am going to buy an ELITE tomorrow
will get this one sent back to MS (approx 18 months old) and then use it in the bedroom as a media server

£220 for an elite in the games shop next door to my work
i had actually broke a wired controller as well due to excessive gears of war playing so that needed replaced anyway (kept going left by itself lol)
had these vouchers since christmas, so they never really cost me anything,, it is going to cost me about £177 to walk in the shop tomorrow, and walk out with a shiney new elite
will send the broken core machine back, and it will get retired to the bedroom as a media player (plus the odd game when the missus is pissing me off and i need to escape from her LOL )
i think its probably the 10 hour bad company multiplayer sessions that did it
i know it was enough to screen burn my plasma

the ELITE is nice
took me a while to work out why the wireless controller was not working (it was not switched on lol)
dvd drive is a lot quieter then my old 2006 core machine
hdmi picture, well i dont know what to make of this, the colours seam a lot richer then the VGA lead, but i do remember the colours washing out a little when i first started using the vga, so maybe the colours are back up to the component lead levels
but the picture when showing in 1080i seams a hell of a lot better then it was with the component lead
the VGA lead will not do interlaced stuff, so i was using a 1024x768 screen res (pretty much 720p)
i do remember messing about with the component leads and trying 720p/1080i swapping and could never tell a difference
but i can tell a difference over HDMI
i had to plug the dongle thingy in to get the optical sound output working, and the sound also seams a little different to me through the surround system, not sure why ??

When I used HDMI on my old 720p TV I used to get terrible overscan. I tried VGA and that was worse. I switched back to component. Since then I've bought a 1080p tv and everythings fine.

It may be technically inferior to both of the above consoles, as the PS2 was inferior to the Xbox and GC, but it is still a competitor in this generation.
