Default Internet Monitoring Software

Can anyone recommend me some free internet monitoring software? Its just to monitor a couple of staff as they seem to spend all day on the internet and playing games rather than working!

Thank you.

Don't know of any free ones, but a word of warning - check your contracts and staff policies before montioring. You have to inform staff that their internet activites could be monitored...

No free ones spring to mind, but depending on your environment, there are a number of cost effective solutions:

Barracuda Web Filter
Cyberoam UTM firewall (run it in bridge mode)
Websense Express

Don't worry I'm covered there. Our Company have a working partnership with Croner so we always consult them before this kind of stuff.

Tell you what.

If you find something, let me know because I have a very similar problem.

I would use websense... not only will it monitor but it will filter as well, its about £20 per year per user..

Added advantage is you can filter laptops all the time now matter where / who is using them

Web Filtering and Web Security - Products & Services - Websense, Inc.

Also protects you and your company...

Websense is a great solution and remote filtering works perfectly, but it wouldn't just be £20 per seat once you include hardware to run it, OS costs and any associated support costs.

I mentioned the other products as they are more "cost effective" (read cheaper). Websense Express is often sold as having a "steamlined" feature set (read missing components of the "proper" Enterprise or Web Security Suite products)

The Barracuda and Cyberoam solutions normally work out cheaper per seat (depending on the size of company) as the licensing is based on the device itself rather than seats.

Is there such a thing as hosted internet monitoring? Like Hosted mailservers.

I'm just wondering as I've never seen any. We use Bloxx boxes but they even the smallest would be overkill.

Websense are now offering hosted Internet monitoring (I believe this was from the Surfcontrol product range they acquired about six months ago)
Websense Hosted Web Security

The Blackspider offering from Surfcontrol is now Websense Hosted Email.
Websense Hosted Email Security

There are some big things planned for Websense around August time, which will put them above and beyond the competition!
