Default Recommend me a good game please, for PC

I have never had a game on the PC so not sure where to start looking or what comes recommended.

Basically looking for something to do on nights when all is quiet,

I really liked the final fantasy style of game on the PS2 FFX I think it was

I dont have anykind of joystick, will this be required for most games?

Cheers

cookie, you using a laptop???

a lot of FPS (first person shooters) use standard "full size" keyboard layouts.

the delta force series was also great to cut your teeth on!!!

any realtime strategy game (command & conquer for example)

If you like fantasy games then stuff like Neverwinter Nights

Have a look here BioWare: Welcome to BioWare (click on 'bioware games')

I've recently been playing STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl and its really good. Like a FPS with a few RPG bits thrown in. You don't need a gamepad for PC first person shooters, just keyboard and mouse.

[edit] Here's a link to a review of the game

Just make sure your laptop is up to playing the games!
Unless it's **** hot, I doubt it could handle Crysis!

I'd go for the orange box, excellent value for money, and the Halflife 2 engine runs superbly on even the lowest specced pc's.

Most Laptops won't meet the min requirements for most of the new games out. Something like Half Life will run ok as I've got it running smooth on my laptop

Would need a connection for the orange box i would think, so you can register with steam and get all the updates.

Oldish games now but recently iv been playing a fair bit of the Lord of the rings, battle for middle earth games.

wasted hours on them battles can go on forever

Battlefield 2142
You'll be begging your missus to go out so you can play it in PEACE.
Thoughts of DOG TAGS and BJ2 combats will be in your thoughts as you go to sleep.
You'll practise and practise until you become and aircraft GOD.
You'll play EVERYDAY to protect your Leaderboard position.
You'll walk down supermarket alleys and speculate on positions for anti personel mines.
Thoughts of CEBERE LANDING and TUNIS HARBOUR will sear themselves on your mind and make you consider having them tatooed on you shoulder.
Buy it.
