How easy is it to change broadband supplier?
I'm thinking of changing from BT to Sky as their Surf, Talk, Speak, whatever package seems like good value, especially as I'm already paying for the TV.
However, I'm hesitating due to the potential of difficulties during the changeover phase. How long should it take to swap once I have the MAC code from BT?
Can I keep my BTopenworld email address?
Thanks!
Steve

Hi Steve,
first time round Tiscali, disconnected me as soon as i asked for the mac code
and never provided a mac code
this time round AOL, gave me the mac code.
the changeover is tommorow, when AOL switches off, and BE switches on
Hopefully that answers your question

The way it is SUPPOSED to work is like with mobile phones: You phone up your current supplier ask for a MAC and then your provide this to your new supplier. They then swap the wires at the exchange (physically or virtually) on a given day and you should have minor disruption to your service.
This is what happened when I swapped from Zen to Be. Tiscali are notorious for faffing around and not providing MAC's.
Edit: No you can't keep your email address.

This what happen to me.
I rang orange to get my mac code and was told it could take up to 5 days for them to send me the mac code and then 10 days after that to switch me over to sky and she told me that they wouldn't disconnect me till the 10 days were up. Got my mac code from orange by e-mail the next day so i ordered sky over the internet and give my mac code to them when i ordered.
Got a letter from sky telling me what day the change over was which was 10 days from the day i ordered but it might take extra 3 days after that because of demand being so high.Got router though the post 4 days later and on the day of change over my orange broadband went off,but it did take sky the extra 3 days they said to connect me.
