Unhappy Laptop won't turn on...advice please.

Had nothing but problems with Acer laptop, typically just out of the 1 year warranty period

Problem this time is it just won't turn on. I have plugged into mains cable and that makes no difference. Was wondering whether it could be that the battery is dead? Is this common?

Before I take to get repaired is there anything I should try?

Or should I bin it and buy a dell/fujitsu? My experience with laptops has been so poor I am reluctant to buy another but I need it for on site so a desktop isn't an option.

Any advice appreciated.

As above, worth trying without the battery in. If it boots, try again with the battery in.

is the power supply working?

(do you get lights on the laptop to indicate that it's plugged into the mains?)

Can you stick a multimeter on it to verify something is there?

Are there any lights on the power brick to indicate if it's working or not. It sounds as though the psu may have died and the battery has gone flat...

Its worth trying another charger. I think you can get a multi laptop charger, with 6 or so different ends, so will work on many laptops for a round 30quid from maplins. If that works, great, as it would probably cost more to get an original charger.

Default Update...Laptop works now without battery in...new one required?

Update Chaps...thanks for advice thus far.

Just got back from site and plugged into the mains at home without the battery and it fired up first time. Put the battery back in and its dead again. So I presume battery is fooked and I need to get a new one?

Thanks for advice
