Sonicwall TZ170 or Draytak 2930
Thanks to everyone who helped with my previous thread on Dual-Wan.
I now find myself in a position to buy a new Draytek 2930 firewall / dual wan router...
or
...keep our exisiting TZ170 SonicWall and upgrade it to SonicWall OS Enhanced, which implements dual-wan. This is the EXPENSIVE option
The Draytek
costs £145+VAT
No hidden costs eg. VPN clients are all free, unlimited users / nodes
Dual-Wan out of the box
Draytek Vigor 2930 Hardware Specifications:
-Intel IXP420 266 MHz Processor -- Intel IXP420 266 MHz Processor
-64M SDRAM, 8M Flash Memory -64 M SDRAM, 8M Flash Memory
-NAT sessions 20000 -- NAT sessions 20000
-NAT throughput 80Mbps -- NAT throughput 80Mbps
-3DES IPsec VPN efficiency ~=60Mb/s -3 DES IPsec VPN efficiency ~ = 60Mb / s
Vigor 2930 Series Security Firewall
The SonicWall
costs £233 for the firmware upgrade to convert it into Dual-Wan
costs £180 to have unlimited users / nodes
costs £24 for each global vpn client licence
Requires a complete rebuild when the new firmware is added (gulp!)
3DES and AES Performance: 30+ Mbps
SonicWALL Online TZ170 - Technical Details
Security ?
So the question is, is the security on the Sonicwall so damn good, I'm forced to keep it and pay the money ? Remember, it's now an obsolete 5 year product and I was all set to buy the upgrades, but they came to £519+Vat when I added them up. (sonicOsenhanced, 4 global vpn licences, unlimited nodes)
On the other hand they Draytek costs less, but is brand new and I assume uses more modern tech.
Your opinions are welcome.
