I'd guess its probably because its pushing both the CPU's and GPU pretty hard, perhaps more than previous titles have done. I doubt its anything to do with the coding of the game as such.

I suspect it's fairly intensive on the gpu and cpu, causing greater heat than other games. Thus, if your console has a weak point and is going to break at some point, it's more likely to do it with this game than with others. Only a guess though...

I have one issue with the game. Does anybody else have this happen? At the 'ring usually in the Pflanzgarten area the game freezes for a split second. As if it is quickly loading the rest of the track, due to it's size. It is really off putting and usually results in me crashing.

Nope. Not had that one. It might be that your hard disk needs a defrag? (I think I saw a post on here somewhere specifying the button combination to use)

To do the defrag
Start the xbox, remove any game disc, scroll over to the system blade, select memory, choose the HD, then press X X LB RB X X (LB RB are the left and right bumper (shoulder) buttons).
