NTP time server sync issues between W2K3 and W2K...
Can someone please tell me if this setup works:
Can I make my W2K3 SUS server that connects direct to the internet be a NTP server using w32time and make the PDC Emulator DC sync its w32time to the SUS server to get its time?
It doesn't appear its possible as I think only a DC can be a NTP server from w32time but I don't want a DC direct out to the net and I don't want to use 3rd party software and a hardware clock is not an option, we have binned that solution to go down the route of using just the OS to do the time sync'ing out to the internet.
Bottom line is is w32time service a ntp server when not on a DC and just a client?
TIA

Yep and also this Microsoft Corporation which states w32time is a ntp server as well as client. Its been configured on my SUS server from another article (How to configure an authoritative time server in Windows Server 2003) and got the network guys to check and the server's definately listening on the ntp port for requests so we've done that bit right. Don't know why the pdc emulator isn't syncing from it though even though its been pointed to it. Still working on that.
