Default antivirus with Vista

Do you need an antivirus with Vista? I tried using Mcafee but it didn't work properly, then I did some research and some people say that there is no need for 3rd party antivirus software to be installed while running under Vista. Is this true?

In a word NO, AV software is needed with Vista

I'll recommend Nod32 as always

Vista only has an anti-spyware defender and a firewall, no anti-virus. Should you accidentally run a virus script, how would you remove it ?

NOD32 works great and most of the vista users on the board swear by it. It uses barely any CPU time and updates very regularly.

Norton 2007 works fine with Vista.

Whatever you do, don't try Zone alarm's products with vista yet though!!

What's up with Norton? I've always found it to be very good.

norton is the shabbiest, bloatiest, badly written, resource hungry, intrusive bit of software ever produced.....

Basically it's bug ridden and uses huge amount of resources. The AV engine isn't bad (if you ignore the resource usage), but Nod32 is better.

I've been using Nod32 and so far I'm very pleased with it.
