good PCs de-commission company?
got compaq D510 (P4 1GB RAM and 40GB HDD) coming up to end of life and need to de-commission them. is there any company that would pay for them and take it away?

I would go down the donation route to. You will have great difficulty in finding anyone to take them and give you money for them. At work we are replacing all our old P4 computers, they are given away free to charities or staff can buy the whole thing (monitor, keyboard, mouse, base unit, XP Pro license) for £50. Companies will take them from you, but as we found out you have to pay them something like £20 per unit for the privilege.

If you do give them away.. MAKE SURE you erase (I mean securely) any private or company data...
Bit embarrassing for little Johnny to turn up some credit card data... after an ICT lesson...

We use a small-ish company for ours. He has never charged us for removal (as he sells what we give him). We have got rid of printers that don't work, 10MB cisco switches, Pentium 3 PC's, 50k worth of broken Nokia Checkpoint boxes.
They also provide you with a formal letter quoting what has been picked up and removed and then you receive a letter of disposal.
I can get you his number Monday if you like.

the company will give the PCs away to IT staff first but how we gonna get rid of 100+ PCs! there's 1 or 2 company we used to use to get rid of really old stuff but for the compaq d510, i think they should be still good for a few quids.
in the mean time, i will ask schools around my area. hdd will defo be wipe clean properly.
