Default BT Broadband problems

anybody having serious slow downs at the moment?

my home hub started dropping the connection last night every few mins, i assumed the HH was at fault as they are pretty crap ( but when i bought the xbox360 and was messing with media connect, i retried it and it worked fine ever since)

so i removed it and went back to the old faithful voyager205, it was late when i finished up yesterday, so i left it alone, came home today and all this evening i have been suffering with shocking speeds

Speed Test Results

Date26/03/07 20:38:59Speed Down237.94 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )Speed Up378.27 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
cant play online with crappy speeds like that
got nothing else to do either

usually around 4mb download speeds for me??

My BT connection has become slow in the evenings, down from 5.5Mbps to just over 1.0Mbps at times. No idea why, but the BT speed tester showns 5.5Mbps even at these slow times!!!

What is the tech support e-mail address?

Tony.

The result on that router test shows its either ISP or your line, get B to do a free test as the ISP will ask you to before they try to fix it.

Yep I'm the same, complained last week as I was experiencing download speeds in the evening of roughly 200kbps, in the morning it's averaging around 4500kbps. I know that speeds are going to slow down between 6-9pm but this is not good enough when I'm paying for 8Mb!

All I get off the helpdesk is can you clear you internet history, can you plug in your router in the master BT socket, can you try this for me, can you try that for me, oh what a suprise sod all difference. And to top it all off they keep on telling me that my connection is fine....aaahhhhhh

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

BT Wholesale controls the lines and your speeds - they are a COMPLETELY different company to BT Retail who sell us all our broadband

Had a similar problem with BT last year. Speed dropped of and never recovered, and yes the filters were still plugged in!

Moved to Cable (telewest), so much better. No slow down, drop outs, nothing. Like they say "if you can, you should".

BT still tried to charge me several months after, got to be the worst company I have ever experienced.

Just been reading on other forums that maybe the evening slow down is due to none BT Vision cutsomers speeds being dropped to allow the BT Vision customers a nice full 4-6mbps at peak times.... now that's just a guess by a few people

Didn't even know about BT Vision, doesn't look too bad at all. No monthly fee with just pay as you watch for films, music vids etc. The box is free, only down side is £90 for connection and installation .

It's all over AdslGuide, BT Broadband are now clearly throttling bandwidth between 6PM and around 10PM. I'm in the same boat, before 6PM I get about 3MB, during the hours after work, I'm lucky if I get ISDN speeds, not good enough! I've been with BT for 6 years, this smacks of underhanded tactics!

thats a bunch of ****! Vision uses the USERS bandwidth - not everyone elses!

Wholesale wouldnt allow it's customers from other ISPs to be effected, thats a breach of the competitions act IT introduced into the marketplace

Sticky - I tried a speed test last night and initially got 0.2mb. Switched the HH off for about 5 mins and then tried again and it went up a bit to just over 2mb.... still crap considering I normally get around 7 mb

i don't like the home hub, its crap but media connect will not work with the old voyager205 modem i have, i can get the xbox online no problems, but it wont stream movies and such from the pc to the games console

probably as the pc has to use a USB connection and the games console the ethernet, anyway the voyager 205 was faultless in operation

looking at BT`s website for a 4 port wired router i couldn't find any, to much bloody wireless stuff, wireless is crap and overrated IMO, especially for gaming, searched ebay and found a boxed voyager240 for about £15 deliverd

just arrived

anybody want to buy a **** home hub

shame the tech support has not mailed me back yet

I'm on BT 8Mb, well that's what my profile says.. don't get me started on the fact that BT say that I'm on 2Mb and I've not been upgraded yet !!!!

In the evening it's crap, totally crap. I reported it to BT the other week and I got the usual ****e of clear your history, check your filters etc etc.

Strangely the other night I checked the connection on
thinkbroadband :: Broadband Speed Test

and it gave completely different results to
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Speedtest.net always seem to be very poor, where as thinkbroadband gives a much higher figure. No idea if one of them is incorrect !!!

Here is mine, also with BT on the 8mb service...

But I am not on the latest Home Hub garbage, heard too many horror stories! I am still on the original £30 service - they can keep the £2 a month saving!! I have a nice shiny Belkin router doing the biz for me! Wired to the PC and wireless to the console.

Only problem I have had is damn dropped connection for no apparent reason at all. Happens 3 times a day, sometimes once a week, sometimes once a month. Had the line tested and a 'mystery' fault was logged, but no-one can tell me what it is!!

Has been okay for the last couple of weeks, so fingers crossed. But what I will say is their customer service has gone to the dogs ever since it was outsourced to India. Try getting a fault logged for someone from BT Wholesale to contact you - it's damn near impossible!!!
