What has it got to do with other ISPs? The forums i was reading were saying 'normal' BT customers were having there speeds reduced at peak times while BT Vision cutsomers were not..... may just be a bunch of **** tho.

Mine seems to be a lot faster at this time, usually starts to slow by now?? I'll do a test at about 7pm and see what it's like.

Just did a speed test after 6PM there, what a surprise, less than half a meg(500Kbps). Looks like it might be time to move!

I had exactly the same issues when I used to be with BT. I found that the download speeds varied massively and there didn't appear to be much of a pattern. Used to drive me up the wall especially when involved in some online gaming action. Now I've moved and use NTL/Virgin whatever they're called, and yes, I know the customer service is cr@p but the thing is I never need to call them. Much better reliability and I rarely get much below the 4Mb I pay for (soon to be 10Mb for free I believe?!) The only weak point in my set up now is my ropey wireless router!

I've been finding mine hover on pages a little the last few days, it's just not as quick as it was

Broadband connection details:Downstream 8,096 KbpsUpstream 448 KbpsConnection time 0 days, 23:29:14

As you can see I rebooted last night to see if that helped.

I got twanged by something the other day first time ever that my AVG picked anything nasty up. I ran a few things and cleared it off I hope as it does not show anymore, I was thinking that maybe I had not got ride of it until I spotted this thread. It looks like there maybe another game going on by BT themselves.... my mate in work said his is very slow at times as well.

I decided to e-mail the broadband support... got two answers and all the usual crap about filters, reboot modem, clear cookies/temp files, processor speed etc came out. The scripted replies really **** me off.... they just aren't relevant to my problem. I await their reply to may rather 'strong' reply.

IIRC somebody mentioned they had the UK tech help number... can they please PM me it. The thought of speaking to India really doesn't appeal.

Tony.

Just had another reply... they have done a line test and found no fault. No ****... if there was a fault with the line (or my pc, or my cabling, or my f*ckin filters) the speed would be bad all the time.

No way i'm paying £26/month for 1.0Mbps at peak times. I'll give them a call and if that does nothing it's a compliant via the ISPA. That normally wakes them up a bit (or it did for Orange my last ISP ).

Cheers, I'll give it another go tonight (before 8 )... but i have a callback coming between 8 and 9 tonight form the chimps i've been speaking to on e-mail. We'll see how it goes.

Scoobyboy... those figures are you sync speeds by the look of it, so yes you are on an 8Mbps service (and will probably get 0.5Mbps during the evening )

I have to say ADSL support does make me laugh.. I called up for one of my uncles and (as I do basically the same job as them) was really polite. Told them I have checked all the cables, nothing had changed, I had plugged into the master socket, run spyware and anti virus scans on the PC, and netstat was showing only one established connection and I have tried another modem with the same slow speed results.

I also said I have downloaded from microsoft and done a few speeds tests showing my connection to be running slowly!

Can they check the network side for me please.

The response... ah ok, can you check the filters are connected to the line pls...

LMAO.. and then ok, call BT and get a line check... thanks for calling

I have to say Indian people are lovely... unless they're in a call center
