Do you just want to import a pic into a word document or put text over/on top of a pic?

Have you tried 'insert' from the top menu, and then 'picture' ?

Then click 'from file' and browse to where it's stored on your PC...

What version of word are you running?

you can also just drag the photo/pic from the desktop straight into Word.

If you want to write over the top of the image, just "right-click" it , clik on "format picture" and go to "Layout" - you'll see all sorts of options for writing over the top of it

what dan said easy....you can even wrap the text around the picture.
also right clicking on the picture allows you to resize and position the pic
