Installing OS on external HDD
I want to install Vista Ultimate onto an external HDD, since I don't have a partitioning tool to re-partition my existing hard drive.
Is this possible? If so and you know of an online guide, please post.
I don't want to mess up my work laptop, which has Vista Enterprise...
Thanks.

Shawa, I too have a laptop that I do not want to repartition the drives on, so I tried to install to an external HDD and Vista Ultimate would not install. Comes up with an error about external drives are not supported.

Well thanks for posting. I had a feeling that it wasn't possible.

You have to create a vitual point device first. Once you have an image then copy it to the USB drive and then change the boot.in file
Remember that hard disks are proper solid state devices - USB sometimes aint. If you need a hand PM me and I'll forward you some more details.
