Default Specing up a new PC

Gonna build my own system this time round.

Looking towards a core 2 duo, its going to be for Vista so I'm thinking 2GB RAM, like my games but don't play PC ones as much as I used to so don't need a cutting edge GFX card but a relatively zippy one would be good. Want 500GB HD space minimum. (mirrored or some such if poss).

Is all that do-able for around £700?

Anyone recommend any good components like the case, mobo, etc? Would this be a good buy?

Motherboard Bundle Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 1024MB 667Mhz DDR2 Heatsink And Fan MSI Motherboard : mbb-c2d6pu

Right this is a flipping minefield isn't it!

Looking at the spec below:

Core 2 Duo E6600
7950GT 512MB
965 chipset Mobo
400GB SATA
2GB 667Mhz DDR2 RAM
DVD DL Writer
Case
~550w PSU
CPU Fan

All comes in around 850-900.........

You’re talking the best part of a grand for a DX10 rig at the moment. Might be worth waiting a few months till the ATI R600 card comes out then I think nvidia will drop the prices of the 8800

Here’s what you can expect for about a grand

wouldn't want to trust that power supply with all that expensive kit

the test of a good power supply is when it fails. if it doesn’t take out your other kit in the process it’s a good one

It's not just the overall power output now either.
Most new mid/high end graphics cards require >30amps on the 12v rail so check the specs.

Cheers Tim.

I'd buy a 530+ watt supply myself most likely.

Motherboards are the ones that confuse me most, theres fecking hundreds of the things and sheit loads of different chipsets
