Question Firefox CPU usage

While I prefer using Firefox to IE, I'm getting sick it using about 80%+ of the CPU whenever the thing is running...

Does anyone know a way of stopping it doing this?

Show us a screenshot of the processes tab, sorted by the CPU column. That might shed some more light...

Having killed the firefox.exe process and restarted it's not currently doing it.

What seems to be happening is that FF runs fine for the first few minutes, but after visiting a few web sites or opening a couple of tabs the firefox.exe process starts to jump between 20 and 80%. After a while it gets worse until the whole thing grinds to a halt and the cpu usage looks like the pic above.

Think I may have found an answer... will give this a go.

100 % CPU usage makes Firefox unusable :-( - MozillaZine Forums

I like the way that thread has been running for 2 years now! :-)

I don't like the long pause while the FTP download manager fires up in Firefox. I'm sure they could improve that.

Someone's going to say "what long pause??" next!!

Maybe it's just a ploy by Mozilla to get everyone to buy dual core CPUs...
