I use AVG and have had no problems NOD32 is meant to be good.
Go to Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com as they have a huge database of downloadable software (it is legal), some software is completely free some are trial versions only.

The AOL (yes, AOL ) AV software "Active Virus Shield" is quite good.

The engine is basically Kasperski AV.

I ran AVG for years without problem.

Tried Avast and was reasonably happy.....just seems to a bit slower than AVG....especially on start up.

I thought that too..

Turns out AVG 7.1 will no longer be free from January.

Because it's being replaced with free 7.5

Just installed AVG7.5 as i kept getting the link everytime i restarted my PC.
Slightly flashier looking seems to run quicker (could be my imagination though).
Had a small problem installing as it said an .exe file was missing, kept installing it,updated it runs fine.

Hope it's better at detecting viruses than the previous AVG...

Never had a problem with detection but with these things you only know how good they are when things go wrong

Don't get me started on AVG Suffice to say, I haven't got a very high opinion of it after having rescue a number of machines that have had it installed...

I had two "new" viruses in as many weeks which AVG failed to pick up.

A few hours later when AVG released an update, they were unable to clean the infected machine.

nod32 fixed both incidents

I could also give similar incidents of AVG, used to be a bugger to get off once it was on as well

I use avast, avg messed up my system when I had it on and as previously mentioned can be a pain to remove all traces of it.

Touch wood, upto now I have avast on both home machines, and not had a problem.

You don't bank with Barclays Online do you?
They are offering a free download of F-Secure AV and anti-spyware software with 24months support.
It has had good reviews so I will give it a try when my Kaspersky subscription runs out next month.
