Are Apple keyboards interchangeable ?
Our old Apple Performa is about to meet its maker at the local tip , but the keyboard is OK. Would the older keyboard work with our G4 iMac. The two are almost identical but wifey does not want me to just plug the old one in to find out incase it causes the iMac to throw a wobbly !!
Anyone know ?
Thanks

From what I recall the performa's used ADB (Apple Desktop Bus, I think) for keyboard and mouse connections, whereas the G4 iMac would be using USB so you'd need something like the iMate ADB to USB Adapter.

it wont throw a wobbly but the Performa is sooo old it wont be USB. That said I would not be surprised if there were old iMacs that did have both ADB and USB...
However you say G4 and I think (99% of) those would be USB...
So if your keyboard that is beige/grey then it will need an adapter , if its clear plastic/grey/blue/red or any weird colour it's going to be USB and will work on the G4. Just try it if the cable fits!
I have adapters to convert ADB to USB and I have an iMate which I have never used, beware though that the one I do have and have used is called a 'mini adb' by compucable it has two ADB sockets and one USB with a switch but when I have plugged it into a B&W G3 the mouse was quite juddery, the keyboard was fine...
If you get stuck and want to buy one then drop me a line

Thanks for the info'
The reason for asking was that wifey threw coffee over the original Performa keyboard-not recommended !- and so I was wondering about keeping the replacement in case she repeated the act on the iMac !
I'll just dump the lot at the tip.
Thanks
