Zlob Trojan help
I'm having a "bit of an issue" in removing this little ******* from my uncles PC.
Tried numerous removal tools, including ones you have to pay for (not that I did of course )
This seems to also be affecting the PC's ability to start up in safe mode as well.
It either gets a BSOD (IRQL_NOT_EQUAL blah blah)
or just simply restarts
Task manager browse reveals pmsngr.exe which on a search is related to the Zlob trojan.
Scan with Spydoctor (download free ) says there is one item and that it is Winantivirus Pro 2006.
Spent two evenings on it and not getting anywhere.
Before I re-install the whole OS I thought I'd ask here first.
Cheers
Andy

If your running XP try a system restore
Or go to a online AV site and scan machine
Trend and Panda can do this to name a few
Zlob has many Variants some are related to downloading codec files to watch Movies
Some change the IE home page

IE home page was changed.
Got round that annoyance by installing Firefox for him.
No dates on System restore before October and none before Virus was noted !
yes it was turned on (wierd that)
He doesn't watch movies on it.
Windows defender doesn't find a thing lol
Neither does the malicious removal tool
Already looked at McAfee, Sophos and AVG sites.
This is the second time his AVG (free edition) has let something in.
I think talks for a different and paid for software is in order.
It's not just a surfing medium, he runs a business off of it.

Best scanner to use for virii removal IMO is Kaspersky. You can download a trial version from their site and run it.
Also, for general removal advice, try these....
Free Virus Removal Tools
Free Virus Removal Tools
Free Removal Tools
Security Response Removal Tools - Symantec Corp.
If you don't find anything there, try typing zlob into Symantecs search....
Search Results: : zlob
EDIT - As for system restore, you can forget that option, most virii attack system restore, making it useless.

Andy,
One other thing worth looking at is to pop over here and from a clean machine, build the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows. It's got various AV and Malware tools on the bootable CD, and before you build the CD you can update the tools to the latest definitions. It does require you have an XP CD (preferably SP2) to build from, this is because it boots into windows. Might be worth a shot
