Default Apple Customer support

I am getting to the end of my tether of the poor customer service with Dells customer service and Dell PC's.

There Tech Support is well...lets put it this way, I'd get more sence talking to a wall than I ever would with one of there tech guys....And why you have to call India (or wherever it is) to get tech support i'll never know, whats wrong with UK.

I am deffiantly considering switching over to a Apple Mac. I have done a search on here, but not really found anything relivant regarding Apple Tech Sppport.

I see they have FAQ's and the likes on the Apple website, but what is there support like?...phone and talk to somebody that knows Mac and is not just reading off of a procedure.

Thanks

Darren

Well there's always the Apple Store if you live near enough to one.

Or your friendly reseller (added for all those mac addicts on Scoobynet )

Your first line of support should be the reseller who you buy from.

Depending on the issue you may then consider a call to Apple.

And I guess trivial questions you'll post on here

darren

told you what apple is like

Apple Tech Suppport has won many awards and plaudits for its service, but like so many manufacturers, they do suffer from the annoying little things that seem to get all of us down at some point, so dont expect them to be 100% perfect, they do a pretty good service it seems.

Your level of support depends on what you buy, where you buy it and what extras you get at the time of purchase.

For example, server purchases can get 1st line support and dedicated server support, whilst consumers get the standard support. However you are offered the optional AppleCare pack and if required the Pro care card, which allows you unlimited support and access to the queue jumping facilities at the store in regent street etc.
Where you buy it also affects the support, so if you buy it from the store or online from the Apple Store, your first line of calls is through them, buy it from a dealer and if you have problems you go to them.

There are also the forums and discussion pages on apple website. register and you can posts questions on there, with some pretty good results, as apple employs people to monitor the boards and answer questions...

And finally you have us lot
There are tons of knowledgeable ppl on here, who own and use macs, so you are pretty much guaranteed a good response....

feel the love

I, on the other hand have had nothing but SHOCKING support from Dell. I wouldn't by a tap washer off them let alone a PC ever again.

Great products let down by a sh1te infrastructure. Box shifters

Dan

PS Apple tech support/customer service is BRILLIANT

I had really bad customer service from Apple a couple of years ago when my iPod went wrong. Made me never want to buy anything from them again, (one of the reasons I decided not to get a Mac mini to play with, although I was tempted).

Thanks all for your comments and thanks to Chris for that info. If and when I do buy one it will be from the Apple store.

-------

My problem with my Dell Dimension 8300 is that I have a poor disply problem, which Dell think it is software not hardware problem

Bars and grigs and large pixels over the screen in green, pink, black etc...

I have tried a different monitor and I get the same problem on that one. So its gotta be hardware or software as they say.

I have formatted and reinstalled XP and as soon as I started on the drivers and got to the soundcard driver - Creative Audigy2 the problem accured again. Now they are saying re formatt the pc again and again reinstall XP and download a driver for the sound card from Dells online support drives thing on there website.

The Graphics card that I have is an 128mb ATi Radeon 9800 Pro.

I have had soooooo much problem with that Dell PC (last problem was the power supply and heat sink - the pc kept shutting down as it was not cooling properly aka over heating) They finially gave in and took the PC back to there labs and fitted a new power supply and heat sink.

I want them to take the PC back to sort out this disply problem. As it is rather hard to correct it over the phone talking to some indian lady telling me what to do.

I would strrongly suggest you think about where you buy from. Don't think just becuase you are buying form the manufactuerer that they will always offer the best support. The Mac reseller channel has a vast level of knowledge and indeed I had the privelidge of working with the two most highly qualified Apple engineers in the UK and thier knowledge levels were astounding.

In my experience Apple are good but they tend to have people who specialise in one narrow area. Often the reseller channel can't afford that luxury so the support guys needs a massive level of knowledge and dealing with a wide variety of issues helps them develop this.

I would always suggest you buy from a reseller as a result and also the resllers can offer a much wider rnage of products than Apple and the Apple stores.

I would suggest you look at what resellers have won the MacUser and MacWorld awards and that would point you to MacWarehouse !

Having spent hours on the phone to the Apple help line my experience is they are a complete waste of a phone call. Can't remember when they have ever been able to sort my problem - that's if I can understand what they are saying in the first place......

that's usually Dell. Indian call centres or some bloke that sounds like a retard Rab C Nesbitt

And both, of course, couldn't give a toss about who's on the other end, as they get paid **** all to answer the phones.......

Apple on the other hand, I have always found quite helpful.

Perhaps my experiences are unique.....
