Default Some Mac updates for you

Apple offically announced the new XServe yesterday and its likely pricing and maybe even stock will appear by the end of the month ! Horay !

Rumours of a new XServe RAID too.

Ah and I think there will be a Mac Mini discontinuation notice very shortly ! Probabaly speed bumping the range and dropping the 1.5Ghz I'd guess.

Sounds about right, core solo making way for core 2 duo perhaps? I did see a rumor earlier about macbooks possibly being speedbumped soon, and there's a rumor going round about a special red ipod nano being unvieled on the Oprah show tomorrow.

I thought they might be dropping the price of the mini or scrapping it all together - when you look at the pricing between the mini and the bottom iMac there's not a lot in it considering what you get extra with the iMac.

The Mini and iMac serve two totally different purposes however.

I thought the mini was a cheap way of getting into the world of Mac - if you dont already have a monitor you might as well go for the iMac and actually get the keyboard and mouse thrown in. It just seems to me the pricing is getting so close that the iMac over the Mini is turning into a no-brainer.

It isn't just a cut down iMac though. Not everyone needs or wants a built in monitor and keyboard/mouse thrown in. The Mini is perfect for sticking under the TV for use with Frontrow to watch films, play their music etc. Having a monitor tacked onto the top is just a waste for that kind of thing.

Exactly, and that's the idea behind the iTV, it'll be a more media oriented device than the mini, might even replace the mini.

No Optical device in the iTV though. That's why I'll be going Mini in the main TV and iTV on the bedroom(s)

It's not scheduled for release until next year so who knows what it'll be like.

Good point about the drive, the pictures here of the prototype don't seem to show one.

Wink

Maybe off to MacExpo but it a bit of a punt from the city where as Islington was ok'ish.

TBH the Apple store in Regents St. is a more pleasant and simpler experience.

My needs are simple though . . . . . gorgeous kit and a BSD command line !
