Default NOD32 AV

Mentioned a lot but is it actually that good?

Any SN current/former usrers care to comment?

Got Norton on Laptop - don't like it
Got McAfee on desktop - don't like it either

I'll get the trial but I'm interested in other real world opinions (that means no speculators with mate of a mate stories )

I had NAV and didn't bother to renew the subscription , Thought I would give NOD a go and while I am still on the trial period I found the PC went about 25% quicker , No problems to report it seems to be doing its job , only found one virus attached to an email and no spy ware either . think I am going to pay for a years subscription when the trial runs out next week .
Bye the way I had it recommended from someone on Snet

I recommend it.

Used NAV some years ago and only duffed up my machine.. BSOD's after uninstalling it!

Went to AVG for a while and was quite good. Now on NOD and it's great - very quiet and non-intrusive on the machine and has picked up stuff AVG and NAV never saw.

I bought 2 licenses for my home machines.

No those defs are out of date, mine are 1.719 (20060822) in other words 22 aug 2006. I have used nod32 for ages and it does not take up hard any system resources compared to Nav

Hi I'm trying NOD32 as well after some problems with my machine.

After running AGV and Trend Micro housecall (I couldn't download any files - but Trend internet based one ran OK ) NOD32 has been run twice and not found anything new...

Boot up seems slower than with AGV... We'll see how it goes

Cheers

nod32 for me too.

I had to disable the firewall / network monitoring widget as it was mucking about with torrenting

NB: you can download the trial, uninstall when it runs out & re install it again.

Once my pay packet hits this month I'm buying it.

You can configure it to check for defs. I think the default is every hour, well it is on my version of NOD. But I've changed it to daily.

I used to use McAfee, but after it started crashing servers I started looking around. I now use Nod32 & have it installed on a range of equipment including SBS2003, WinXP & a stand alone laptop. The software works very well & is a nice change from the bloated competition. I liked the product so much that I signed up as a reseller & now all my customers are also using Nod32. The Enterprise version has a nice network push installation feature with remote administration.

Thanks chaps, been running a few days now and heading for a purchase.

Blkknight - I told it to ignore the torrenting exe but left it in place for the rest, doesn't seem to have made any difference to my downloads....

Alternate option is Kaspersky. According to ratings NOD pips it on the leaderboard though

I run all our business PCs off Kaspersky with no issues, although they do slow down a bit when doing a scan, being PIIIs its not suprising, but it's nowhere near as bad as McAfee or NAV. And also I have the option to throttle it down to 1% of the CPU so it doesn't hog the system so much.

I'm currently working on a mates PC that's riddled with viruses at the moment. It has AVG and PCGaurd (both notrious). The registry has corrupted so AVG no longer works anyway. Its still got viruses, so I'm going to give Nod a 30day trial to see what it can find and how well it works
