How to change your IP address?
Hello.
Does anybody know how difficult it would be for me to keep changing my IP address roughly every month or so and how I would go about it?
Thanks,
Matt.

your public IP address is controlled by your ISP and is either dynamic i.e changes all the time or static i.e always the same. Unless you mean a private IP address when you are connected to a router i.e. 192.168.xxx.xxx in which case it would be start > control panel > network connections > Right click on LAN connection and select properties > Highlight TCP/IP and select properties

The reason I need to do this is that I have registered an account with a certain site and its now dormant but they will not let me register again from the same IP and its frustrating because I could from another place but its not practical.
So.. any idea how difficult it would be to change my permanant IP address?
When it comes to IT I genuinely have less of a clue than the average 10 year old!

Matt,
with NTL it depends on whether you have a set top box or a cable modem.
Either way you need to switch off these boxes for more than a few minutes.
Sometimes it takes straight away other times you might have to leave it off overnight.
For all those out there thinking "You can do it this way" or "Wrong you can do it like this."

So this is the easiest way for Matt.

most are static till you it the isp,s server then go dynamic matt think of them as bus routes from you to a terminus then transfering to another bus to take you further v basic but simpler to follow can you ping destination or better tracert
