I popped in to Game today in Harrow and whilst there i commented to the bloke behind the counter that it has gone all quiet on the 360 front, with my view the next game out worth getting, Splinter Cell, which is not released till the beginning of September. [gives me a chance to complete some of the games i've got]

Well he commented that they were holding back for the PS3 launch where they'll be 20 or so games released, well this was announced at E3 so that was no surprise, he then made the bold statement that the rumour was that they're going to drop the price on the 360 by £100 to really kick Sony in the nuts. Surely they couldn't drop it that much, a price reduction is widely expected but that's pure dream world figures.............. Isn't it

Microsoft announced a couple of weeks ago that they weren't planning any price changes for xmas and it was all internet rumour...

I'm waiting for the PS3 to come out before deciding whether to buy a 360, and tbh I was hoping for a circa £80-100 price drop.

MS could really hurt the PS3 sales by dropping the premium pack down to £199, thus a £80 drop.

Both Xbox1 and PS2 consoles were dropped in price quite quickly after launch.

Well it would make sense for a price drop, Sony will never fulfill all orders and they're dreaming if they think they can, and Bill Gates ever the opportunist could nab those disappointed peeps.

They dont really need a price drop seeing as its cheaper than than the ps3 anyways, what they may do is release a cheaper 360 bundle with the HD-Drive addon to combat the ps3.

Gears of war has been delayed until Nov, I can see why they are doing it but it's a pain in the ***, I was looking forward to that sooner rather than later

to be honest dont think they need to drop the cost, I doubt very much the ps3 will appear this year (rumours are it wont be running to its design capabilities anyway)

But they're naff games, and Sony hasn't officially announced a UK price yet, so be prepared for that deal to change.

I may get a PS3, but I expect it'll be next xmas, not this one. I'm going to wait until there is something worth buying one for. Till then, the 360 will do very nicely thank you

Especially with Play who I pre-ordered my 360 with - they were utter sh!te and I will never pre-order with them again!

Exactly my thoughts too. With the new titles coming out for the 360 towards the end of the year, I'd rather spend my hard earned pennies elsewhere than fork out for the PS3 - still to be anywhere near convinced that it'll be any better than the 360...

I honestly expected that Microsoft would drop the premium pack to £200 when the PS2 comes out, this IMO is the only way to make 100% sure they control the gaming market for the future. Would look brilliant the xbox360 and PS3 both being pretty much similar in performance but with a massive difference in price (there is already but it'd look so much better for microsoft iif they dropped it). Im hanging back for the price drop before I buy another anyway as Im not convinced one little bit that the PS3 will be any better or be out ontime aswell.

Why preorder it? I bought my xbox360 on the day of release without pre ordering it. walked into asda and bought it no problems Least that way you get to choose what you buy aswell rather than being forced to buy games you dont want.

I wasn't suggesting that you should pre-order a PS3, I was pointing out what the price is going to be. I certainly won't be buying a PS3 until the price drops substantially as I am more than happy with my 360. As what has already been pointed out its just not worth the money.

But Sony haven't announced the UK pricing yet. Play are just guessing at this point, (based on the euro price). I guess that's why they say the contents of the bundle are subject to change. So if the console is more expensive than they are expecting, they can remove some of the other items fro the deal...

Yes, but it will still be more expensive than the 360.

I wonder how many parents will assume the PS3 is leaps and bounds better than the 360 purely based on the price difference - i.e. if it's twice the price surely it must be twice as good.

worldwide, but probably not in the UK, theres a lot of people that still hate microsoft and won't even try a 360, Japan is typical of it's sony bias. It's a shame really because ms have pretty much nailed it this time, great console enhanced by a very good live marketplace.

Sony have never done online gaming so this alone is new territory to them which they need to get right to suceed.

When talking about ps2 sales against 360 I said Japan were Sony biased as opposed to MS, Nintendo may rule but they weren't in the statement
