copy between to hard disk very slow ! help!
Hi all
We have some nice spec HP 8200 workstations - 2gb ram, 2 X 160gb sata disks (all speced from HP website) running XP pro. Page files all correctly done.
Problem is when copying from disk 1 to disk 2 it takes ages - like 2-3 mins for 200mb! Any ideas??? why so slow!
Any help appreciated
Andy

is the 200 mb one big file or thousands of small ones?
are the drives heavily fragmented?
thats all i can think of but even if both of the above are true id still expect to get more than ~1Mb/sec on new SATA drives.

If you copying IDE drives, ie from the master(the one with your OS) and the slave(the one with your pictures, movies and music on it) IT will be very slow!
If your drives are connected using one cable which is usually the case it will be very slow!
Its normal! Try talking to someone down a phone with somebody else talking to them, its hard, the computer finds it hard to send and recieve data using the same cable!
If you have another PC pop the hard disc in there and use an ethernet cable! OR an external HDD! Only ways I know to get around it!
