You will need some type of connection, if the camera has USB then you can use that, if it has firewire only then you need a firewire card - they are only about £3.50 on ebuyer.com.
The only other way is to do it through an existing analogue card =- e.g tv tuner - VIVO graphics card etc

I have a USB cable which allows me to transfer the images to the PC from (stills)
I have multiple connections on the camera,
Cam - TV
Cam - USB
Cam - PC (via firewire connection)
Can i use the USB cable to transfer the video over then?
Do i use Windows Movie Maker to adapt the file?

I doubt it, or they wouldn't have put the firewire port on it
I think the USB part allows the camera to be used as a digital stills function only.
Windows Movie maker would be fine for that purpose.
It is well worth getting a card and cable though, as the whole point of digital camcorder is getting them onto the PC, editing them and burning them to CD/DVD etc.

I'll do some research when i'm home, including reading the bloody 300 page manual
