Xbox looks awful on Dell 19" monitor
We've got a new Dell with a 19" "ultrasharp" flat panel monitor (1907FP) and the XBox looks awful on it, when I can convince it to work.
Have always had the Xbox connected to PC monitors (via a VGA convertor thing) and its always been terrific.
The new monitor didn't recognise the feed unless I put the Xbox in PAL mode (and even then it loses it when you switch games and cannot see the initial xbox options menus). When a game runs, the graphics look awful (tried several last night), like playing on a Spectrum!
Am I doing something wrong or do I have to live with it? Is the only option to take the Xbox to a TV with a wireless bridge?
Cheers

The only option I could find in the Dashboard (it's a UK Xbox) was 'normal' or 'PAL'
I'll have another look but pretty sure there was nothing to do with resolution

Most games support 480p, some even 720p or 1080i.
There's a pretty good list here: http://www.hdtvarcade.com/hdtvforum/...tom&page=xboxa

Isn't the problem the fact that the vast majority of computer monitors don't support 16:9 aspect ratio ? This is the image size video game consoles are designed to work at.
Computer monitors will compromise by either letterboxing the image or re-scaling it to fit - with nasty results.
Even Dell's widescreen monitors don't natively support 16:9 properly. Its about time they did.
