And once you get rid, try using something less intrusive but equally effective like Avast! I gave up using Norton products years ago as they wanted to take over my system and just dragged performance down to a degree which I found unacceptable. www.avast.com

when i got rid of it i found that i had to remove loads of stuff that was Norton, took ages to find it all

I had this on a machine at work only yesterday, went to add/remove programs and norton wasn't even there.

But try here
clicky

worked great for me, you have to download a script onto you pc which norton itself cried about when i did it but let it carry on and it will remove almost everything norton, only works with 2004/2005/2006 versions though

AVG gets my vote too.

Norton kills performance as stated previously.

And AVG is Free .

I wouldnt install AVG to be honest. Youd be better off with something else like NOD32, kaperspy or Mcafee spring to mind

yes, i've had several problems with it. Fixing other peoples machines that had it on. Online tests it never does well at all an example below.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

People say "its fine on my machine" which is fair enough but the detection rate is very poor, just my 2 pence worth. Paying for another packge will give much better detection and this day and age you really can't afford to have poor antivirus detection
