This will probably help you. It was something that was featured on channel 5's Gadget Show:

And it's free!

Some things to think of.
Do you have access to the outside world from work ?
Do you use a router at home ?

Your router will need a bit of configuration ( i expect) to be able to remote to your pc.
If it does need re-config, what you have to do, will depend on what remote software you use.

you can use VNC Viewer or MS Remote Desktop,

If you have a router you will need to setup port forwarding to the PC you wish to control...

VNC uses PORT 5900 as default

Remote Desktop uses PORT 3389 as default..

I you wanted to connect to 2 PC's then you will need to chnage the default port on at least 1 PC

And also configure any firewall software/hardware to allow for those ports.

Another vote for logmein

Shouldn't need to open anything up on your router either

logmein is free for basic remote control. If you want to have file sync and other features then it costs.
